On Jan 13, 2002, the RV2WaySat Yahoo group was started under the category of Recreational Vehicles. At that time, there weren't too many RVers out there moving two-way satellite dishes and manually pointing them. Not only that, but Direcway would clearly tell you NOT to move your dish, but to get a professional installer to do that.

This Yahoo group was started as a way of exchanging information among the early users of mobile Internet satellite - since Direcway wouldn't support our efforts, we HAD to help each other. And help we did!

During those early days, the forum was constantly buzzing with issues, questions, and worries about getting shut down. The group was made and kept private, because of this fear, though these days the "official" policy at HughesNet seems to be more one of "Don't ask! Don't tell!"

These past six years or so have brought many changes with them, including three new generations of Direcway and later HughesNet technology, a truce with the automatic-pointing system users, and a service-provider authorized entry into the manual-pointing field, with the StarBand Manual-Flyer program.

Another change that occurred in 2007 is that the membership was opened up to anyone interested. In the past, you had to be an RVer with a mobile satellite system to join. Now If you want an invitation to the Yahoo RV2WaySat group, just request one via email to .....

We have also seen incredible improvements in how the technology is used by RVers. We've gone from a piece of plywood on the ground to specially developed tripods, offset mounts, meters, and other hardware additions, to make life easier for all of us. Innovations from the various members of the group have even led to new careers for some of us.
